Vaishnavi Sharma is an Indian women’s cricketer who plays as a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and right-handed lower-order batter. She made headlines at just 20 years old by becoming the first cricketer from the Chambal region to represent India at the senior level.

Vaishnavi Sharma rose to national attention after her outstanding performance in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, where she finished as India’s leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets, including a hat-trick on debut. She made her senior T20I debut for India Women against Sri Lanka on December 21, 2025.

Physical Details

Early Life

Vaishnavi Sharma was born on 18 December 2005 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, a region not traditionally known for women’s cricket. She comes from a well-educated and supportive family.

Her father, Narendra Sharma, is a professor at Jiwaji University and also practices astrology. He famously predicted Vaishnavi’s success in sports at the time of her birth. Her mother, Asha Lata Sharma, is a homemaker, and her elder brother Abhishek Sharma is an engineer.

Vaishnavi started playing cricket at the age of 4–5 years under coach Lovekesh Choudhary at Tansen Cricket Academy, Gwalior. At just 11 years old, she made her debut for Madhya Pradesh U-16, becoming a role model for girls from the Chambal region.

Education

Vaishnavi Sharma completed her schooling in Gwalior. She is currently pursuing higher education while managing her professional cricket commitments. Due to her early rise in cricket, much of her teenage years were spent in training camps, tournaments, and national assignments.

Cricket Career

Vaishnavi Sharma’s cricket journey has been marked by consistency and composure beyond her age. She represented Madhya Pradesh across age-group levels and regularly finished as a top wicket-taker.

Her breakthrough came in the 2024–25 domestic season, where she recorded career-best bowling figures of 5/16 in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Internationally, she became a key member of India’s U-19 team in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 held in Malaysia. She took 17 wickets, including a hat-trick on debut against Malaysia, and played a major role in India lifting the trophy.

Her performances earned her a senior India call-up for the India Women vs Sri Lanka T20I series (December 2025). She made her T20I debut on 21 December 2025 at Visakhapatnam and was the most economical Indian bowler in the match (4–0–16–0).
