Gaurika Bishnoi Background
Early Life Story
Gaurika Bishnoi was born on August 9, 1998, in Rohtak, Haryana. She grew up in Gurugram, where her family supported her sporting ambitions from an early age.
She did not start with golf. Her first sport was tennis. The shift happened when a golf driving range was built directly opposite the tennis courts where she trained. Her younger brother Sunhit wandered across one day and immediately took to the game. Gaurika followed him, and in September 2008, at age ten, she picked up the sport that would define her career.
During their school years, both siblings volunteered at professional tournaments held at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. At one junior clinic, they watched legendary British golfer Dame Laura Davies hit a “driver off the deck” — a moment that left a deep impression and motivated both of them to pursue professional careers.

While building her golf career, Gaurika also studied Economics Honours at Jesus and Mary College, Delhi. She attended morning lectures in New Delhi and then traveled to Gurugram for afternoon practice. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, the university’s highest academic distinction.
She won the National Championship in 2015 and turned professional in 2016. In 2017, her first full season, she finished as the number one ranked player on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, earning an exemption to compete internationally on the Ladies European Tour the following year.
Family Background
Her father, Lalit Bishnoi, is a businessman, and her mother, Poonam Bishnoi, is a homemaker. Both parents actively supported their children’s athletic ambitions.
Her younger brother Sunhit trained alongside her at DLF Golf and Country Club. He turned professional in February 2022 and won his maiden professional title at the 2023 India Cements Pro Championship. The two siblings created a highly competitive training environment during their development years.
Gaurika met Aaron Rai in 2018 at the Hero Indian Open, which was held at her home club, DLF Golf and Country Club. Aaron’s mother, Dalvir Shukla, struck up a conversation with Gaurika during the tournament and was so impressed that she insisted her son meet her after his round. After dating for seven years, they married on July 22, 2025, in a lavish Indian ceremony at Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire, England.
The couple lives in Jacksonville, Florida, where they train together regularly at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
