Early Life Story

Ishita Mangal was born on October 30, 1990, in India. She grew up in a financially stable household and developed a passion for fashion from a young age.

She pursued formal fashion education at NIFT Bangalore, one of India’s top fashion institutes. She won the Best Academic Performance Award there. 1

After NIFT, she also took a short course at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, Italy, to further develop her design skills.

Family Background

Ishita’s father is a Chartered Accountant, and her family has always been supportive of her career choices. Her mother frequently appears in her comedy videos and represents the bridge between traditional Indian values and modern fashion.

Her brother Mohak Mangal is a well-known YouTuber who runs the channel Soch by Mohak Mangal. His success in digital storytelling has been a strong influence on how Ishita approaches her own content creation.

Education

At NIFT Bangalore, Ishita studied the full technical side of fashion including garment construction, textile science, and graphic design. Her formal training is what separates her from most lifestyle influencers and gives her the expert knowledge she shares in her content.

Professional Journey

Starting the QUO Label

As a college project at NIFT in 2012, Ishita started her own fashion label called QUO. She developed it into a full designer brand by 2013.

In 2015, she showcased her collection “Misprision of Treason” at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive through the Gen Next platform. The collection was inspired by crime scene investigators and detectives.

Her label QUO was stocked in stores across India including Sasya in Kolkata, Creo and Fuel in Mumbai, Study by Janak in New Delhi, and even internationally at Gnossem in Singapore.

Pivot to Digital Content

The COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point in her career. With manufacturing and retail shut down, she had no clothes to sell. To stay connected with her audience, she began making videos answering styling questions.

Her audience responded so strongly to her advice and her voice that she realised her real passion was digital storytelling. She eventually shut down QUO and moved fully into content creation.

Building a Digital Audience

Ishita launched her YouTube channel in March 2014 and gradually built a large following through practical fashion and beauty content. Her most popular early video was a bra styling hacks guide that went viral.

Her social media presence grew steadily through series like How to Fun and Fashion, which delivers beauty and styling tips through comedy. Her Twitter bio describes her as the “original creator to mix comedy with fashion.”

Ishtates of India

Her most significant project is the Ishtates of India series, which she launched on Independence Day. In each episode, she covers the traditional textiles and crafts of a different Indian state with humor, local phrases, and storytelling.

The Madhya Pradesh saree episode alone received over 364,000 views. The series has become one of the most well-known digital campaigns for promoting Indian heritage. 2

Cannes Film Festival 2026

In May 2026, Ishita made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival as a fashion and culture storyteller, representing Indian craft on the global stage. She attended as an official partner of L’Oreal Paris and wore an Ajrakh gown sourced from Kutch.

Controversies

Madhubani Paints Dispute (2023 to 2024) — A small Bihar brand called @madhubanipaints, run by the daughter of National Award-winning artist Asha Jha, alleged that Ishita’s team refused to return a hand-painted saree worth Rs 18,000 after a shoot-and-return agreement. The brand owner’s daughter reportedly had to visit Ishita’s Delhi residence to physically collect the saree after months of no response. The brand also alleged that photos of the artwork and artist were used without credit. 3

Sandook Collective Allegation — Another brand, Sandook Collective, claimed that Ishita’s team took a handwoven Banarasi trench coat and refused to pay for or return it, and even threatened legal action when the brand complained publicly.

Tisha Saksena Dispute — Designer Tisha Saksena reported a public fallout after the brand declined to gift Ishita an outfit, following which Ishita reportedly made critical public comments about the designer’s work.

These incidents led to wider criticism that while her public content promotes Indian regional crafts, her private business dealings may not align with the values she promotes online.
