Chanley Shá Painter Background

Early Life Story

Chanley Shá Painter was born on June 10, 1984, and grew up in Conway, Arkansas. From a young age, she had a strong interest in law and the courtroom. She used to watch legal dramas like Matlock and Perry Mason as a child instead of cartoons. 1

She was an overachiever from early on. She pursued academics, music, dance, martial arts, and pageantry all at the same time.

Her father, Michael Painter, encouraged her to enter beauty pageants when she was young. This early experience in public speaking and presentation later helped her in her TV career.

Family Background

Chanley grew up with her parents Michael and I’Lisa Painter and her older sister Chelsa. She has described her mother and sister as “sweet, caring, and giving.”

She keeps her personal life very private. She married businessman James Anderson in 2022 but has not shared many details about her marriage publicly.

Education

Chanley attended the University of Central Arkansas, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science. She was also recognized as a Presidential Scholar.

At the same time, she enrolled in a 4-year concurrent program that combined a Juris Doctor from the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law with a Master of Public Service from the Clinton School of Public Service.

She graduated with High Honors from law school and served on the Law Review Editorial Board. She passed the bar exams in both Arkansas and Tennessee at the same time. She completed all her degrees on full scholarships and graduated debt-free.2

Professional Journey

Early Legal Career

After passing her bar exams, Chanley began her legal career as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the 16th Judicial District of Arkansas. She started this role in early 2012 after meeting a county prosecutor at a courtroom proceeding.

She also ran a private practice during this time, handling family law and estate planning cases. This gave her a complete view of the legal system from both sides.

Transition to Journalism

In 2016, a news director at Nexstar Media Group’s KARK 4 and FOX 16 in Little Rock reached out to her to be a legal analyst for the high-profile murder trial of realtor Beverly Carter. Her ability to explain complex legal terms in plain language for audiences was instantly recognized.

She spent the next two years learning the full craft of broadcast journalism, including shooting, editing, and field reporting. By January 2018, she was hired as a full-time multimedia journalist.

Court TV (2019 to 2024)

In 2019, Chanley joined the relaunched Court TV as a legal correspondent and field anchor. She became one of the main faces of the network’s live, gavel-to-gavel trial coverage.

Over five years at Court TV, she covered some of the biggest trials in America including the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation case, the Alex Murdaugh double murder trial, the Derek Chauvin trial following George Floyd’s death, the Bryan Kohberger Idaho murders case, and the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault trial.

Fox News (2024 to Present)
