Early Life
Jane Seymour was born in England to Benjamin John Frankenberg, a Jewish gynaecologist from Poland, and Mieke van Tricht, a Dutch Protestant nurse and World War II survivor. She grew up in Wimbledon, London, with her sister Anne Gould, who also became an actress.
Jane learned Dutch from her mother and studied French during a stay in Geneva. At age 13, she trained in ballet with the London Festival Ballet and later attended Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. However, a knee injury at 17 ended her ballet dream, and she turned to acting.
Her first movie role was an uncredited appearance in Oh! What a Lovely War (1969). She chose the stage name “Jane Seymour” after the third wife of King Henry VIII, thinking it would be easier to remember and market.
