Early Life

Anna Smrek was born in Welland, Ontario, into a sports family. Her father, Mike Smrek, played in the NBA and won two championships with the Lakers. Her mother, Sanja Smrek, and grandfather, a Croatian water polo coach, encouraged her to try volleyball.

Anna was a competitive dancer until 8th grade. She was always the tallest in her class but embraced her height with confidence. Her brother, Luke Smrek, played tennis for Marquette University.

Anna went to Notre Dame College School in Welland, where she quickly gained attention from top volleyball programs. She received offers from Big Ten and Pac-12 schools by Grade 10.
