On 4 July 2025, Gopal Khemka was shot in the head near the gate of his apartment at Ramgulam Chowk, Patna, around 11:38 PM after returning from Bankipore Club. The attackers fired at close range and escaped. One bullet and a shell were recovered.

The case took a serious turn when his son Dr. Gaurav Khemka filed an FIR at Gandhi Maidan Police Station, demanding protection and blaming police negligence. The FIR was registered under Section 103 BNS and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

Police detained multiple suspects, including Roshan Kumar, who suspiciously appeared at Gopal’s cremation with a flower bouquet.
