Gina Ortiz Jones was born in Arlington, Virginia, but she grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She was raised by her mother, Victorina Ortiz, who immigrated to the United States from the Philippines.

Military and Intelligence Career
After finishing her studies, Gina Ortiz Jones joined the United States Air Force as an intelligence officer.
She served on active duty and was deployed during the Iraq War, where she worked on intelligence operations supporting military missions. She later left active duty with the rank of Captain.
Following her military service, Jones worked in several national security roles. She served as an intelligence analyst and advisor with organizations including the U.S. Africa Command and the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Under Secretary of the Air Force
In 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Gina Ortiz Jones to serve as the Under Secretary of the Air Force, the second-highest civilian position in the Department of the Air Force.
